Overview

This machine repairs moulds and dies by adding filler wire with short laser pulses. The pulsed Nd:YAG laser heats only a small spot, so heat distortion around the repair stays low. The operator watches each spot through a microscope and feeds wire by hand.

The laser head and the whole beam path rotate 360°. The head also lifts and lowers under power and moves forward and back. Together with the 3-axis table, this reaches repair areas on large, medium and small moulds. A rotary fixture on the table lets you weld round parts as well as flat ones.

Configuration

  • Laser: pulsed Nd:YAG with xenon flash lamp, 1064 nm, up to 20 ms pulse width and 50 Hz.
  • Pump cavity: ceramic reflector cavity that resists corrosion and heat; xenon lamp rated for more than 8 million pulses.
  • Viewing: microscope on a 360° swivel, with an automatic shading filter that protects the operator’s eyes during each pulse.
  • Work table: 3-axis table with 250 × 180 mm travel and 200 kg load, plus rotary fixture.
  • Controls: remote control for parameters and motorized spot-size adjustment from 0.1 to 3 mm.
  • Cooling: separate water chiller, 2700, 3500 or 6500 W cooling capacity by model.
  • Shielding: one argon gas line.

Typical applications

Use it to repair moulds and dies of all sizes by adding filler wire to worn or damaged areas. The rotary fixture also handles round parts. It welds tool steel, stainless steel, aluminium, bronze and titanium.

Options and customization

  • Laser power: 200, 300 or 500 W.
  • Supply: 220 V or 380 V, 50/60 Hz; plugs to suit your country.

Maxwave started in 2009 with laser power supplies and jewelry welders, the same pulsed-laser technology this machine uses. It has a 2-year whole-machine warranty.

FAQ

About this machine

What filler wire sizes can it use?

0.1–0.6 mm on the MW-200M, 0.1–0.8 mm on the MW-300M and 0.1–1.0 mm on the MW-500M.

How heavy a mould can the table carry?

Up to 200 kg, with 250 × 180 mm of X/Y travel. For moulds that do not fit the table, the laser head lifts, moves forward and back and rotates 360° to reach the repair area.

Which power should I choose?

Higher power suits thicker filler wire and larger repairs. Rated output is 180, 270 and 460 W, with wire up to 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0 mm. Tell us your typical repair and we will recommend a model.

What does it need on site?

A 220 V or 380 V ± 10%, 50/60 Hz supply depending on the model, an argon supply for shielding, and floor space for the main unit (1250 × 580 × 1200 mm) and the chiller (700 × 500 × 900 mm).

Is it hard to learn?

No. The control system is simple and parameters are set from a remote control. We train operators free of charge at our factory.
